OUR DEVICE
For more than 20 years, we have held the proud tradition of formally being known as the College of No Mountain
as was befitting a chapter of the SCA whose members were primarily college students attending Grinnell College.
The College of No Mountain has always used this image (left) to represent our "device". A device, when displayed
symbolizes, "This is me".
In the medievil language of heraldry, the description of a device is called an "emblazon"; the image itself is called
a "blazon". The emblazon of our proudly maintained device is:
|
"Perbend sinister ermine and vert, two pallets Or and in chief a laurel wreath overall vert."
Or, in modern English, translated herewith each term defined:
|
Perbend (diagonally divided background)
sinister (top right to bottom left)
ermine (the black and white part, a fur)
and vert (green in color),
two pallets (the two vertical bars)
Or (gold in color)
and in chief (at the top)
a laurel wreath (a laurel wreath)
overall vert (which is completely green).

OUR BADGE
At some events, you may see some of our members proudly displaying the populace badge either on their garb,
or otherwise about their personal belongings. When displayed, a badge symbolizes, "This is mine".
The emblazon of our badge is:
|
"Per fess embattled argent and vert, in chief a demi-horse rampant sable"
Or, again in modern English, translated herewith each term defined:
|
Per fess (horizontally divided background)
embattled (the square dividing line)
argent (white in color)
and vert (green in color),
in chief (at the top)
a demi-horse (a horse in profile)
rampant (front hooves reared up)
sable (black in color).
